We provide a geographical perspective on social and environmental change. We visualize data, bring it to life and tell a story of place, for example through our online Local Knowledge system or our Place Profiles.

Our Local Knowledge system holds over 1,500 indicators, at 8 different geographical levels, using 8 applications. We'd be delighted to give you an online demonstration. Call us on 020 7440 7360 or use the button below to request an online demo.

On 14th November we launch our new and improved website, which you will be able to access at www.localfutures.com

If you would like further information or a demonstration of our new services please contact us at info@localfutures.com.

Local Government Group Conference 2011
We would like to thank everyone who visited our stand at the LGG Annual Conference in June. The feedback has been excellent, with response to our new ‘Total Place’ Maps exceptional (“Phenomenally interesting” according to one Chief Executive).

'Total Place' Maps

Our new Beta Website incorporates advanced GIS functionality allowing, for the first time, the simultaneous display of multiple map layers. As a result, users are able to show, on a single map, everything they would like to know about a place and its communities. With this new application they can display ‘Base Maps’ (e.g. Open Street Map), add ‘Thematic Layers’ (e.g. demographic, health indicators) whilst at the same time displaying ‘Cosmetic Layers’ (e.g. schools, GP surgeries). Early pilots have highlighted potential applications in asset management, local planning, economic development, education and health. If you would like to discuss options for including your own cosmetic layers in Local Knowledge please contact kate.fisher@localfutures.com.

Local Enterprise Partnerships

Local Futures has prepared the first geographical analysis of the Local Enterprise Partnerships. This shows the considerable variation across the country in the challenges faced by LEPs. The new LEP geographies are currently being incorporated into Local Knowledge and, using these online resources, you will be able to create a quick yet powerful analysis of a LEP economy. For a copy of the State of the LEPs report please contact michael.dee@localfutures.com.

Recent Projects

Local Futures has prepared several sub-regional assessments over recent months, including an analysis of East Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire and a study of North London. These comprehensive reports can be quickly and cost effectively produced, and are currently being considered by a number of LEPs. Local Futures has been working with Local Government Leadership on a major Big Society project in Oxfordshire. The aim of this groundbreaking study is to develop a better understanding of the role played by community groups and to consider ways in which councils and councillors can better engage with them. The project has involved innovative mapping of community groups and community assets using our new mapping application. We have also been running a series of ‘Knowing your Place and Community’ workshops for local authorities. Often involving senior management teams/cabinets, the workshops have helped in identifying key priorities at a time of reduced spending. For further information on any of the above please contact john.fisher@localfutures.com.

Our new offer
Following new developments in our online services we are now able to offer an integrated solution for local research and intelligence. By combining Local Knowledge, Place Profiles online, our Customer Knowledge resources and Smart Observatory option within the same platform, we can help organisations achieve significant savings in research time and costs. Used at a partnership-wide level they are ideal for informing a ‘Total Place’ approach and delivering Community Budgeting. For further information please contact info@localfutures.com
